Folding a square into a crane and reading a defender's angle on the break are the same move: find the one line, and the rest of the figure has no choice. Hand me a kid who swears they're "not a math person" and a stack of scrap paper, and inside a session they'll have built a proof with their own hands before they notice it was math.
Marcus’s story
Marcus pulled a 58 in 9th-grade Geometry at his school on the West End — he could recite the theorems cold but couldn't tell you why a single one was true. The man who fixed that ran the Sunday pickup runs at John A. White Park and taught him to fold paper: crease a square corner to corner, and the perpendicular bisector is just sitting there, no two-column proof required. Marcus started teaching origami at the rec center that summer and walked onto the Morehouse intramural squad at point guard the same year. He graduated in 2019 with a 3.7 and a thesis on the crease patterns behind rigid-origami structures — the kind NASA folds into solar arrays — and has tutored Geometry full-time since.
